Auckland weekend part 2

 Continuing on with the Auckland weekend last weekend, on the Sunday I first went to Auckland for a bit of heavies spotting.

Next, I went up to Whenuapai because the Luftwaffe who are in the country for a few weeks were sending up their A321N for a Missed Approach before heading back down to Woodbourne. So had to time it right and just about did. Then it was back to Auckland for the evening.

Whilst I was there Keith offered to take me up to Omaha Flats airstrip. Having never been there before, of course I said yes. Lucky for us Keith managed to get in touch with the strip owner and he gave us permission to open up all the hangars and have a look. Again, no photos out of respect, except for the one outside.

Taildraggers 2025

 Over the weekend Hawkes Bay held the annual Taildraggers fly-in and comps. on the Saturday it was held at Hastings, whilst on Sunday it was held at Waipukurau.

So yesterday I ventured up to Waipukurau to see what was about. I had sadly just missed the bearhawk group that was doing their fly-in at Waipukurau over the weekend. But nonetheless there were still some aircraft that flew in on a beautiful day:

Tiger Moth Spring Fly-in 2025

 Over this weekend the New Zealand Tiger Moth Club is holding the annual spring fly-in held at Taumarunui.

Yesterday I ventured up and had some hope as the weather on the drive up was blue skies most of the way. But upon arriving it was overcast and watching some of the arrivals, a lot were turning back I suspect due to low cloud.

Nonetheless there were still over 30 aircraft in, including 11 tiger moths! A great turnout on that.

 On a beautiful winter's day, I had a brief visit down to Queenstown to try and catch up on helicopters there as it's been over 4 years since I last visited.

Hastings Dawn Raid 2025

 Today the Hawkes Bay and East Coast Aero Club held their annual dawn raid. The weather wasn't too bad, it was partly cloudy when I arrived and just a tad bit of wind, but I suspect the weather elsewhere wasn't like this as the number of visitors was down today.

Although there were a number of visitors that came in plus some locals, so it wasn't too bad an event in the end.

Biggest surprise of the day, as far as I know this is the first visit!

The other surprise of the day I haven't seen a bantam at Kapiti for about 12 years!

An absolutely awesome day with 17 flying in for it. Next event is the Hastings Dawn Raid in 2 weeks, looking forward to that!
